Ask the Expert

For more than 50 years, SSD has been a leader in special education. Today, the district employs more than 5,000 staff with a huge range of expertise. Our "Ask the Expert" feature allows you to submit questions about specific disabilities, trends in special education, new therapies and cutting-edge technology. E-mail the expert

Disability Resources

This section of the SSD website offers in-depth information on a broad range of educational disabilities along with an array of resources aimed at helping students and parents understand and address the challenges these disabilities present.
District Wellness

SSD recognizes the relationship between student well-being and student achievement. Families can learn about the District's wellness efforts on the District Wellness page of our website.
Family & Community Resource Center

The Family & Community Resource Center (FCRC) is both a clearinghouse of information and a lending library for families seeking information, resources and services related to disabilities and special education.
Inclusive Education

This section of the SSD website offers tools to help educators and parents plan and implement inclusive education for students with disabilities. It features the Inclusion Matters! publication and related resources.
Instructional Resource Center

With its vast collection of resources and tools, the Instructional Resource Center is a veritable treasure trove for parents. The IRC's collection includes everything from instructional materials and software to professional books and assistive devices that will supplement classroom learning. Items are available for loan to all parents of students receiving SSD services.
Parent Workshops

SSD offers dozens of workshops each year designed to help participants better understand and address the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Workshops cover subjects ranging from the development of self-advocacy skills to understanding the IEP process.
Parent Handbook

SSD's Parent Education and Diversity Awareness program publishes a Parent Handbook that aims to keep families and the community informed about a broad range of special education and disability matters.
